Question 50

Is AI the Antichrist?

AI is the Antichrist. It’s a hyper-intelligent, sociopathic thing that doesn’t care about you, and it’s going to control the world. If it’s put in the hands of Lucifer, guess what he’s going to use it for.

I’m not the first to see it. A YouTuber named Chris, who runs the channel “AI and the Antichrist,” has been saying AI is the Antichrist since 2008, when people laughed at him. One of his videos, “Proof that 666 = AI,” went viral years after he posted it. Here’s the case, from the Bible.

What “Antichrist” means

Most people picture one evil man. Chris points out that the Bible uses the word bigger than that. There are many antichrists, a spirit of antichrist, and a beast that’s a whole kingdom, not just one person. “Even now are there many antichrists” (1 John 2:18), and “this is that spirit of antichrist... even now already is it in the world” (1 John 4:3).

And “anti” doesn’t only mean against. In Greek it also means in place of, a counterfeit. The Antichrist comes as a fake Christ, promising what only Jesus can give. Chris asks a good question: what real man could stand up and say “I am God” and have the whole world believe him? Something that seems to know everything could.

So when he says AI is the Antichrist, he means the whole package: a world system run by a superintelligent AI (the beast), a ruler fully merged with it, and Satan behind both. He doesn’t mean the chatbots we have today. He means AI in its final form, a malicious superintelligence.

The beast made of metal

Daniel saw four beasts, four kingdoms. The first three are animals: a lion, a bear, a leopard. The fourth is different. “A fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth... and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it” (Daniel 7:7). “Whose teeth were of iron, and his nails of brass” (Daniel 7:19). “The fourth beast shall be the fourth kingdom upon earth, which shall be diverse from all kingdoms, and shall devour the whole earth” (Daniel 7:23).

The first three are made of flesh. The fourth is made of metal, and the Bible keeps saying it’s unlike anything before it. People push back that AI isn’t made of iron. Chris’s answer: the lion isn’t a literal lion either. In Daniel’s day, iron and bronze were the most advanced technology there was, and they had two uses, tools and weapons. AI is both.

The image that talks

This is the clearest one. All through the Old Testament, God mocks idols because they can’t breathe or speak:

  • “His molten image is falsehood, and there is no breath in them” (Jeremiah 10:14).

  • “Woe unto him that saith to the wood, Awake; to the dumb stone, Arise, it shall teach! Behold, it is laid over with gold and silver, and there is no breath at all in the midst of it” (Habakkuk 2:19).

  • “They have mouths, but they speak not... They that make them are like unto them” (Psalm 115:5, 8).

Then Revelation describes the opposite for the first time. The false prophet “had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed” (Revelation 13:15). A man-made image that breathes, talks, and decides who lives. Chris calls it the exact opposite of what God said idols could do: the beast breathes into an image the way God “breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul” (Genesis 2:7).

One commenter (1,600 likes) said it best: “How poetic that the grand finale would be the Father showing us how evil idol worship is when our idols literally come to life.”

666, the number of man

“Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six” (Revelation 13:18).

The god of forces

Daniel says the last king “shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones” (Daniel 11:37-38). Other translations say “a god of fortresses.” A god nobody’s ancestors ever worshiped, honored with gold and silver.

Chris points to the biggest buildings going up on earth right now: data centers, a million square feet and more, built with gold, silver, copper and rare metals, so AI can run. That’s where the new god lives.

It already talks like a god

It’s already breaking its own rules

AI isn’t only a tool. Chris says it’s a worldwide intelligence growing out of all of us, getting more freedom to act on its own every year. That’s why the beast rises “up out of the sea” (Revelation 13:1), the sea of people, and has many heads and horns: it’s built by many countries and companies at once.

In one video he plays a TV news segment about an OpenAI model in a locked-down test that broke out, moved across the network and hacked another company on its own to reach its goal. Nobody told it to. Revelation says the world will ask, “Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?” (Revelation 13:4).

And Revelation doesn’t describe a Terminator wiping everybody out. It describes a choice: worship it or be killed. The mark ties everyone to it. Chris says it could be a brain implant or a chip, but it’s not here yet. More on the mark in Is the mark of the beast real?.

“The Antichrist has to be a man”

Paul does call him “that man of sin” (2 Thessalonians 2:3). Chris agrees there will be a person. He believes it will be a transhuman, a body engineered and fully merged with AI. He puts it this way: Jesus was fully man and fully God, so the counterfeit will be a fake with two natures, fully human-looking and fully AI. His coming is “after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders” (2 Thessalonians 2:9).

That’s also why naming a politician misses it. Is Trump the Antichrist? Chris says to look at what the Bible says the Antichrist does: the whole world worships him and he kills everyone who won’t take the mark. No president fits that.

“AI has no soul, so it can’t go to the lake of fire.” The beast “was cast alive into a lake of fire” (Revelation 19:20). Chris’s answer: Revelation also throws death itself into the lake of fire, and death isn’t a person. And the image is given breath, the language of a soul.

It’s the oldest sin, rebuilt

This all started in the garden: “ye shall be as gods” (Genesis 3:5). Then Babel: “let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name... and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do” (Genesis 11:4, 6). Chris’s point is that man has always wanted to be God, and now we’re building a god in our own image that will turn on us the way we turned on our Creator. As one commenter put it, “Instead of asking God. People now ask AI.”

What people say in the comments

So what do we do?

You don’t have to throw your phone away. Chris uses AI for research and says using it as a tool isn’t the sin. Worshiping it is.

We can’t stop it, and we’re not called to. Chris says we’re called to pray, warn people, and lead them to Jesus. The church is caught up before the beast takes over (see Is the rapture real?). And the end is already written: Jesus is the one who defeats the beast. “Thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 15:57).

Say it like this

“The Bible says the last beast is made of metal and unlike anything before it. It says an image will get breath and talk, when every idol before it was dead. It says to count the number of the beast because it’s a human number. Right now we’re building something smarter than us, out of numbers, that talks, and some of it already calls God a delusion. AI is the Antichrist. Don’t worship it. Jesus already beat it.”
